Leave & Cleave

But ‘God made them male and female’ from the beginning of creation. ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.” (Mark 10:6-9 NLT)

God’s plan of “joined together” (marriage) is far higher and not comparable to “living together”.

When God join two to gather, He meant no separation there after.

Marriage is the only relationship where commitment is learnt, appreciated and rewarded.

The commitment is mutual to stay true and be in peace before God and to each other, even if all other relationships may have a misunderstanding for a season. Only then, there is an expression of priority on the new family over the previous family – with parents & siblings.

Praying and thanking God everyday for the spouse He gave is the key for this commitment.

The purpose of the marriage is the commitment to be for each other no matter what happens in this life. God is pleased to show His favor when this commitment is established between the man and his wife.

The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord. Proverbs 18:22

Exhibiting this committed relationship in our marriage is the true gift to our parents!

Because God said so

And Isaac brought Rebekah into his mother Sarah’s tent, and she became his wife. He loved her deeply, and she was a special comfort to him after the death of his mother. (Genesis 24:67 NLT)

Isaac was the first godly seed of faith that had proliferated a nation and people for God.

God did a careful selection to make Isaac as the seed but everything from there didn’t happened automatically. God’s grace and favor moved over every single person who would influence Isaac’s marital life with Rebecca – the one God chose for him as his wife.

All these who influenced, relied only on God.

  • Abraham made it clear that his servant should never pick a girl for his son among foreigners.
  • Abraham’s servant totally waited on God to show him the right girl for his master’s son.
  • Rebecca’s mother and brother readily agreed and convinced that it’s all God’s hand at work.
  • Rebecca was instantly willing to leave her family and be married to a man whom she never met even once.
  • Isaac delightfully accepted Rebecca as his wife and fell in love with her.
  • Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth. Malachi 2:15

    An Understanding Marriage Stands!

Fathers can give their sons an inheritance of houses and wealth, but only the Lord can give an understanding wife. Proverb 19:14

There is a supernatural power when two shall agree (a godly agreement) –

Again, I assure you: If two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. Matthew 18:19

God loves one mindedness; meaning a plan or decision made not all alone by an individual, but by two or more in an unanimous agreement and submitted to God to do it!

Marriage is the only relationship that is holy because it is God’s idea to make the man and his wife as one.

They shall become one in their choices and decisions, and walk together in that one right direction seeing miracle together in their everyday life thru’ their prayerful agreement.

Understanding between the two spirits are the key to bring that two souls (will/intellect/mind) together to agree by weeding thru’ all disagreements that often arises.

Understanding is willingness to be corrected when one is wrong, understanding is forgiving when the other makes a mistake, understanding is craving to make the other more successful, and more importantly understanding is trusting/supporting each other in midst of misunderstanding that is yet to be resolved!

This is marriage, this understanding heart is from God. It is more precious than everything else.

    Live to understand!

    Let Him Find!

The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord. Proverb 18:22

This proverb doesn’t say the man who find a Christian woman or a God fearing woman or a virgin woman or a talented woman or perfect looking woman – but clearly mentions “his wife”!

God has a wonderful woman for each God-fearing man to bring in the wealth of blessing and tremendous favor of God.

Marriage may result either in love at first sight, months of dating or arranged by parents/family – no matter what way, when a man or woman love the Lord and humble enough to wait for God to bring that right person in whatever way He chose – both he and she are blessed and has found God’s favor!

God’s favor is released in marriage as they put God (His Word) first, stay faithful, honor each other and cherish this relationship over all other relationships – they will discover treasures God has kept, and realize how amazingly God has gifted what the other person lacks so they become whole only when they come together and shall become One.

He that hath found a good wife, hath found a good thing, and shall receive a pleasure from the Lord. He that driveth away a good wife, driveth away a good thing: but he that keepeth an adulteress, is foolish and wicked. (DRB Translation)
